Moniaive is a small village in the parish of Glencairn, north of Dumfries on the A702 – it has a population of around 500 people. A picturesque village nestled between three glens, Moniaive was named best overall small village in the Nithsdale in Bloom competition five years in a row, from 2006 to 2011. Amenities

The village has a general store, two friendly pubs and a popular Italian restaurant. In 2015, the village reinvented itself as Moniaive Festival Village and went on to win a £50,000 Creative Place Award from Creative Scotland. Every year the village hosts a number of festivals including a Folk Festival, a Bluegrass Festival and a Comic Festival.

Schools

Moniaive Primary School serves the village and surrounding rural area and is partnered with Duncow Primary School and Dunscore Primary School. The school has a pupil roll of around 60. The nearest secondary school is Wallace Hall Academy, in Thornhill.
