Penpont is a small village 2 miles west of Thornhill and 16 miles north of Dumfries, in the valley of Scaur Water. It has a population of about 400 people.
Penpont has a village shop, a Parish Church and a small caravan holiday park.
Penpont Primary School serves the villages of Penpont, Keir, Tynron and the surrounding rural area. The school is partnered with Closeburn Primary School. The nearest secondary school is Wallace Hall Academy, in Thornhill.
